The invention is an external scanning device which provides systems and methods for characterization of external memory devices. It is operatively configured to the external memory device and a computing device, determines information associated with multiple operational parameters of the computing device. At least one of the operational parameters is transformed. This is done by utilizing disguised information about an operating system (OS) of the computing device and multiple confusion bytes. The disguised information is based on a principle of nature inspired instructions and effectively confuses the external memory device that is plugged into the computing device. Also, the transformed operational parameter is transmitted to a server for characterizing the external memory device. Unlike the USB Data Blocker, the invention has intelligence to identify the malware and has a capability of camouflaging the host computer information, making it nearly impossible for the malicious code to attack. Due to ever-evolving cyber attacks, nature-inspired defensive mechanisms are the future. There is no such device available which provides such active defense.
